ELL

Drew and I are trying to start up an English Language Learning (ELL) program at our church. We are very excited about getting it going. This past Sunday it was announced in the service and that we would be standing out in the back after service was over if anyone would like to sign up to be a volunteer. We got a couple people that were interested. The areas that we need volunteers in are teachers, assistants and childcare. Drew's English as a Second Language (ESL) students have expressed their parents desire to attend this free class of ours. It seems as though we may have a great turn out but not enough volunteers to help. Drew also has some other contacts that said they know off a lot of people who would be interested. Here is an optimistic scenario for the turn out. Drew's school has 100 ESL students. If even half of those student's parents sign up for this free program that would be 100 parents. If each couple has 1 child that would be 50 children needing childcare. Now here is our concern. I know for sure that 1 teacher and 1 assistant would not be able to provide the best education for these people. 1 person is not and should not be able to take care of 50 children on their own. Even though we haven't had a great response for volunteers we are still very excited about this new ministry. We feel that God has been laying it on our heart to work with this people group who do not speak English as their first language. This would be a great opportunity to get foreigners with other religions into our facitlities and open their hearts to God.
